Application Process for Virginia Main Street
Designation in 2007
Virginia Main Street is pleased to announce that we will be accepting up to three additional Designated Virginia Main Street Communities that meet the eligibility criteria into this successful downtown revitalization program in 2007. A Designated Virginia Main Street Community receives an array of intensive assistance to help advance local revitalization efforts including customized design assistance, access to state and national specialists, training on key downtown issues, as well as ongoing marketing and promotions.
In order to complete the application for designation, communities should review three documents in detail before beginning: the Virginia Main Street Program Guidelines, the Application Instructions and the Designation Application. Links to these documents are provided below.
(The application can be downloaded as a Word document, as well as in PDF format. This option is available to make completion of the application easier. Applicants are reminded to maintain the space limitations when answering the questions.)
Two “How to Apply” workshops will be conducted during the month of January for communities interested in completing the Main Street Designation Application. Workshops will be held in Richmond on Jan. 16 and in Marion on Jan. 18.
At each session Virginia Main Street staff will review the application in detail and answer questions. Attendance is not required for a community to apply for Virginia Main Street designation, but it is highly recommended. Applications are due April 20, 2007, and the Governor’s office will announce the newly designated communities by late summer.
The deadline for registering for either of the workshops is Friday, January 12. You can register by downloading the registration form and e-mailing the completed form to kyle.meyer@dhcd.virginia.gov , or by faxing it to (804) 371-7093. Directions and the workshop agenda will be e-mailed once registration is confirmed.
