Emergency Home and
Accessibility Repairs Program
The Emergency Home and Accessibility Repairs Program (EHARP) provides funds to remove imminent health and safety hazards, and/or barriers to habitability for low and very low-income Virginians. The program assists homeowners in Virginia by funding local administrators to undertake bricks and mortar activities that improve housing conditions for low-income persons and/or low-come persons who are physically or mentally disabled. Eligible repairs can include plumbing, structural, electrical, roofing, wheelchair ramps, and handicapped accessible appliances.
Assistance from local administrators is available to occupants based on income. An applicant’s total gross household income from all sources cannot exceed 80% of area median income (AMI), adjusted for family size, as currently determined by HUD. The most current area median income information may be found on the Virginia Housing Development Authority’s website at http://www.vhda.com/BusinessPartners/PropertyOwnersManagers/Income-Rent-Limits/Pages/HUDMedianIncome.aspx.
To apply for assistance, select the link to the EHARP Contact List to find contact information for the local administrator that provides services in your locality. They will provide you with eligibility requirements and information on how to apply. To find out more about the services that are provided, please call (804) 371-7112 or e-mail: brett.jackson@dhcd.virginia.gov
