Getting Started or Expanding a Business

DHCD has several programs that can help develop a new business or expand your current business. Below is a list of programs that may meet your needs.

Building Entrepreneurial Economies (BEE)

Building Entrepreneurial Economies (BEE) is the next evolution of Virginia’s commitment to micro-entrepreneurship.  Formerly known as Virginia Enterprise Initiative (VEI), BEE is taking a more local approach to developing stronger businesses that help build stronger communities.

Virginia Enterprise Zone (VEZ)

VEZ is a partnership between state and local government that encourages job creation and private investment. VEZ accomplishes this by designating Enterprise Zones throughout the state and providing two grant-based incentives, the Job Creation Grant (JCG) and the Real Property Investment Grant (RPIG), to qualified investors and job creators within those zones, while the locality provides local incentives.

Virginia Individual Development Account (VIDA)

VIDA encourages saving and improving personal financial management by providing matching funds for individuals saving into a designated account for a specific purpose, such as homeownership, education or business start-up. Match and savings can be used to purchase inventory and equipment, as well.
