Virginia Disaster Assistance Fund (VDAF)

Virginia Disaster Assistance Fund:

The Virginia Disaster Assistance Fund (VDAF) is a $50 million state program providing financial relief to Virginians whose homes, businesses, farms, or community infrastructure were destroyed or heavily damaged by natural disaster. It also funds large mitigation projects to protect community infrastructure against future disasters.

We encourage homeowners and business owners whose property experienced a total loss or major damage in Tropical Storm Helene or the February 2025 storms to apply. Learn about the application process here. Financial assistance is also available for bridge repairs or reconstruction, slope stabilization and retaining walls, structural reinforcements, and infrastructure repair and upgrades.

We distribute funding through our partner organizations (local governments and regional Planning District Commissions) to make sure help reaches residents quickly and fairly.

Applications are reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis until all funds are distributed. Applicants will need to provide proof of ownership, residency at the time of the disaster, photo ID, insurance documents (if applicable), damage photos, and cost estimates.

Apply as soon as possible by visiting the website or emailing or calling the regional Planning District Commission serving your county or city.
