The Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) has launched the Virginia Disaster Assistance Fund, a $50 million initiative designed to provide rapid relief and long-term resilience to Virginians impacted by recent natural disasters.

The Virginia Disaster Assistance Fund is divided between two key areas:

  • Recovery and Rebuilding ($25 million)

    • Will assist individual homeowners and business owners whose real property was totally destroyed or suffered major damage and will provide help to farmers who lost livestock, fencing and eligible crops.

  • Mitigation Projects ($25 million)

    • Will fund initiatives aimed at strengthening homes, properties, bridges and community infrastructure to better withstand future disasters.

The program will make funding available through localities affected by Tropical Storm Helene and the February storms. Program guidelines for individual homeowners and business owners for total loss or major damage to their real property will be issued immediately, with guidelines for other elements including bridge reconstruction, fencing, and crop loss, to be issued May 20.

Comprehensive mitigation project guidelines will be issued on July 1, 2025.
