Governor Glenn Youngkin announced today more than $5 million in Growth and Opportunity for Virginia (GO Virginia) grant awards for 10 projects focused on expanding talent pipelines and strengthening workforce development while accelerating economic growth and job creation efforts across the Commonwealth.

Focus on community revitalization, organizational development and capacity building 

The Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) is launching its first Mobilizing Main Street Program cohort-based program with the first 10 participating organizations representing the localities of Big Stone Gap, Buena Vista, Clarksville, Colonial Beach, Covington, Galax, Martinsville, Hilton Village in Newport News, Petersburg and Phoebus in Hampton.

Relief provided to eligible property owners affected by August 2021 Hurley floods

Governor Glenn Youngkin today announced that more than $2 million has been distributed through the Hurley Relief Fund. The relief payments are available to Virginia residents with real property damages caused by the flooding event occurring on Aug. 31, 2021, in Hurley, Virginia, which was subject to both a state declaration of emergency and federal Major Disaster Declaration.

Funding will support housing rehabilitation, water and sewer improvements, and community development projects

Governor Glenn Youngkin today announced more than $11.5 million in Community Development Block Grants (CDBG) for 10 projects across the Commonwealth.

The projects will receive funding to rehabilitate housing, improve water and sewer infrastructure and provide facilities for needed services and expand business development support and entrepreneurial ecosystem development services, benefiting more than 700 low- to moderate-income Virginians.  

B Street Community Project | $1,500,000

Governor Glenn Youngkin today announced more than $4 million in grants from the Appalachian Regional Commission's (ARC) Partnership for Opportunity and Workforce and Economic Revitalization (POWER) Initiative. The funding will support workforce development, community revitalization and expanded health service efforts through economic development initiatives in the Appalachian region.

Virginias are encouraged to get homes and children tested for lead

The National Lead Poisoning Prevention Week is aimed to increase lead poisoning prevention awareness in an effort to reduce children's exposure to lead in their environment and prevent its health effects.

Grants will support entrepreneurial training and small business development

Governor Glenn Youngkin today announced $180,000 in Community Business Launch (CBL) grants for the Downtown Lynchburg Association, Nelson County and the Waynesboro Economic Development Authority. CBL provides funding to offer training to entrepreneurs and conduct business plan competitions that align with local and regional economic development strategies, primarily in Virginia's downtown commercial districts.
