Public comment open until Dec. 29 

The Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) has released the Commonwealth Digital Opportunity Plan for public comment. The public comment window will close on Dec. 29, 2023. 

Funding will support talent pipelines and workforce training

Governor Glenn Youngkin announced today more than $1.9 million in Growth and Opportunity for Virginia (GO Virginia) grant awards for eight projects designed to empower workforce development, bolster startup ecosystems and promote economic growth in the Commonwealth. These initiatives will play a pivotal role in nurturing skilled talent, fostering entrepreneurial ventures and bridging the gap between job seekers and employment opportunities.

Virginia is first in nation to submit all required BEAD plans

The Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development announced today the submission of the Initial Proposal Volume 2 to the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA), which includes the adoption of public comment. The submission of the plans and initial proposals are the final step for Virginia to access its $1.48 billion federal allocation to deploy high-speed internet networks to areas without broadband.

Funding will support revitalization of derelict structures into mixed-use developments

Governor Glenn Youngkin announced today $1 million in Mixed Use on Main Street (MUMS) funding for two projects located in the cities of Lynchburg and Martinsville. The projects will transform the former A&P grocery store in Lynchburg and the former Woolworth's building in Martinsville into commercial and residential spaces. 

Affordable Connectivity Program provides broadband discount for eligible households

As students head back to school across the Commonwealth, the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) would like students and parents to stay connected through the federal Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP).  
 

Funding will support expanding small businesses, revitalizing downtown districts and filling vacant storefronts

Governor Glenn Youngkin announced today $2,910,500 in Virginia Main Street (VMS), Community Business Launch (CBL) and Virginia Business District Resurgence (VBDRG) grants for 45 projects across the Commonwealth. The funded projects will revitalize historic commercial districts, expand small businesses and bolster the local economies.

Virginia is first in nation to release plans to access federal broadband funding allocation

Governor Glenn Youngkin announced today the release of the Commonwealth's plans for closing the digital divide. The plans outline Virginia's strategy for connecting Virginians to high-speed, affordable broadband and will allow Virginia to access its $1.48 billion federal allocation to deploy high-speed internet networks to areas without broadband.  
 

Funding will support new construction and rehabilitation of over 3,200 affordable and special needs housing units

Governor Glenn Youngkin announced today $52,224,544 in Affordable and Special Needs Housing (ASNH) loans for 49 projects across the Commonwealth. The recommended projects will create and preserve 3,248 total units for low-income and extremely low-income households, including 337 permanent supportive housing units, 3,155 rental units and 93 units for sale as homeownership opportunities.
