DHCD Announces Submission of Broadband Plans to Reach Universal Access for Virginians

Virginia is first in nation to submit all required BEAD plans

The Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development announced today the submission of the Initial Proposal Volume 2 to the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA), which includes the adoption of public comment. The submission of the plans and initial proposals are the final step for Virginia to access its $1.48 billion federal allocation to deploy high-speed internet networks to areas without broadband.

Funding will support new construction and rehabilitation of over 3,200 affordable and special needs housing units

Governor Glenn Youngkin announced today $52,224,544 in Affordable and Special Needs Housing (ASNH) loans for 49 projects across the Commonwealth. The recommended projects will create and preserve 3,248 total units for low-income and extremely low-income households, including 337 permanent supportive housing units, 3,155 rental units and 93 units for sale as homeownership opportunities.

Governor Glenn Youngkin today announced that he is recommending 16 projects for funding by the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC), totaling $7.3 million in grants. Virginia's Appalachian region encompasses 25 counties and eight independent cities. ARC will finalize approval of these project awards later this year.

Governor Glenn Youngkin Announces More Than $8.2 Million in Industrial Revitalization Funds

Investment will support community revitalization, industrial site development, childcare center and workforce development

Governor Glenn Youngkin today announced $8,250,000 in four Industrial Revitalization Fund (IRF) grants for the city of Staunton and the towns of Abingdon, Bluefield and Cape Charles grants to provide gap financing for construction projects aligned with local and regional economic development strategies. The four awarded projects will create over 125 jobs and leverage an additional $20 million in public and private investment.
