New funding supports workforce training, industry readiness, and innovation across the Commonwealth

Governor Glenn Youngkin today announced $2.8 million in Growth and Opportunity for Virginia (GO Virginia) grants to advance 10 projects that strengthen regional economies, expand talent pipelines, and prepare sites for future business investment. The awarded projects leverage an additional $1.2 million in local and non-state funding.

Funding supports new housing and infrastructure in western Lee County

Governor Glenn Youngkin announced $2.5 million in state funds to support infrastructure development for 115 housing units that will serve both Lincoln Memorial University and the western Lee County community. The Governor also announced $3.2 million in funding for a wastewater project that will serve the community and economic development. 

RICHMOND, VA - Governor Glenn Youngkin today announced that the Virginia Disaster Assistance Fund is accepting applications from homeowners and businesses in Southwest Virginia. Governor Youngkin proposed the $50 million initiative, which the General Assembly approved, to provide financial relief and long-term resilience to Virginians impacted by recent natural disasters. 

Virginia's proposal, published today, will save $200 million under new rules authorized by U.S. Secretary of Commerce

Governor Glenn Youngkin today announced that Virginia has published a proposal to complete the Commonwealth's goal of providing high-speed internet connection to all homes, businesses, and community centers.  

Funding will support job growth, business expansion, and community revitalization across the Commonwealth 

Governor Glenn Youngkin announced $5.4 million in grant awards to Virginia communities to support 30 local projects that revitalize historic commercial districts, transform vacant structures, expand small businesses, and bolster local economies. The funding will enhance communities, create or expand 19 businesses, generate 142 new jobs, and leverage more than $17.6 million in additional public and private investments. 

Strategic funding to advance regional workforce development and economic growth initiatives

Governor Glenn Youngkin today announced more than $6.8 million in Growth and Opportunity for Virginia (GO Virginia) grant awards for eight projects aimed at advancing Virginia's innovation economy and expanding regional talent pipelines to support the expansion of strategic industry sectors including energy, life sciences, information technology, manufacturing, logistics, and agriculture.

 Governor Glenn Youngkin today announced that he is recommending 13 projects for funding by the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC), totaling $5.356 million in grants. ARC will finalize approval of these project awards later this year. 

Horn recognized for legacy of housing investment and regulatory reform

Director Bryan Horn will depart from the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development May 30, 2025 to accept another position. As the architect of Governor Youngkin's "Make Virginia Home" initiative, Horn led the Administration's efforts to catalyze housing construction statewide. Deputy Secretary of Commerce & Trade Maggie Beal will serve as the agency's interim director.

Funding will support new construction and rehabilitation of over 2,969 affordable and special needs housing units  

Governor Glenn Youngkin announced today more than $139 million in Affordable and Special Needs Housing loans for 41 projects across the Commonwealth. The recommended projects will create and preserve 2.969 total units for low-income and extremely low-income households.  

Governor Glenn Youngkin today announced more than $23.6 million in Community Development Block Grants (CDBG) for 33 projects across the Commonwealth. The funding will support projects that rehabilitate housing, revitalize downtown districts, and improve water and sewer infrastructure benefiting more than 10,000 low- and moderate-income Virginians.
